The God particle; and things to know about Higgs Boson

God particle is a sub-atomic particle (also known as ‘Higgs Boson’) which is responsible for proving mass of the matter. It is known that the weight of a body depends on the presence of gravitation while the mass always remains same, be it on Earth or any other planet or moon. In this article, I am going to talk on God particle; what is God particle/Higgs Boson and how it was named so. Also, some important results that have been obtained by the continued research and help of ‘The Large Hadron Collider’ can be read here. What is God Particle? Why the Higgs boson matters? The God Particle (or Higgs boson) is a sub-atomic particle discovered by CERN , is considered to an important particle responsible for the mass of matter and a building block of the Universe. It is believed to be the mass provider or a strong constituent of matter which contributes in the mass and various other properties of matter (solid, liquid, gas). According to Layman’s theory, a variety of sub-atomic pa...

10 things to know about Large Hadron Collider (LHC), CERN

Large Hadron Collider (also referred as LHC) is a particle accelerator which has been in news for testing and discovery of the metaphorically known ‘The God particle’, the Higgs boson. Let’s know a few things out of many about the Large Hadron Collider in this mini article. 10) The Large Hadron Collider is the largest and highest-energy particle accelerator in the world. 9) It was built and advanced during 1998 to 2008, by CERN (the European Organization for Nuclelar Research). 8) The main aim behind the invention and processing of LHC was to understand and test the predictions made by different theories in particle physics. However, the most targeted aim was to know about the existence of a sub-atomic particle, Higgs boson . 7) The existence of LHC is a result of contributed efforts made by more than ten thousands scientists and hundreds of laboratories and universities played role in the contribution of Large Hardon Collider’s development. 6) It i...

UNICEF’s Sweat Machine turns sweat into drinkable water

Ever thought of drinking/tasting your or a friend’s sweat while thirsty? I guess, ‘NO’. Recently, UNICEF promoted an amazing Sweat Machine which  turns perspiration into clean drinkable water . The promotion was a part of campaign organized by UNICEF to create aware about water and how can we save and properly utilize each drop of water. While it may look a bit insane and yucky to imagine if sweaty water will be introduced in the packed bottles in market, a Swedish engineer has taken the chance to invent a sweat machine that will turn your perspiration liquid into the water we drink. The  sweat machine  was presented in the public for the first time during a water scarcity awareness campaign by Unicef, which was held in Sweden. The inventor of Sweat machine, Andreas Hammar is an engineer and TV personality based in Sweden. According to the inventor and Unicef, the machine first takes away all the sweat from our sweaty clothes with the help of a spinn...

Bacterium 'Planococcus haloctyophilus OR1' bacterium from Earth unfolds the signs of Life possible on Mars ‘The Red Planet’

Bacterium from Canadian high Arctic has been found to survive on most downfallen (permafrost) temperatures easily. The frosting temperature on Ellesmere Island, Canadian high Arctic is closely similar to that of the surface of Mars. Hence, this special organism has shown new possibilities of Life on Mars as well as one of the moons of Saturn, Enceladus. The surface temperature of Mars and Enceladus holds subzero conditions where life cannot be expected, however, this bacterium offered an ease in surviving in conditions similar to subzero conditions, i.e. temperature below -15 º C. The new founding had been made recently by McGill University and their scientists on a bacterium. This picture has been taken from the Internet and does not represent the actual visual description of the ' Planococcus haloctyophilus OR1 ' bacterium from Canadian High Arctic. The team of researchers did screening of about two hundred different microbes to find the most able microorganis...

How brain reacts when we focus and concentrate: The mystery of Human brain revealed, says ‘Neuron’.

A team of scientists from Newcastle University has unfolded new secrets of human brain. The team revealed what goes in brain while handling information. A recently published report in ‘Neuron’ reveals the activity of brain chemicals that help us to deal with relevant information. The team funded by Wellcome Trust and BBSRC shared that we improve out intelligence and perceptual abilities by altering the way how neurons respond to external stimuli. [“ So can we cure mentally ill or retarded patients by working on this information?” – Topics: WhatSoEver ] The scientists said that these changes affect the strength and working of neurons as well as increases the accuracy of brain’s reaction or response over particular information. The team revealed that the glutamate coupling to NMDA receptors worked to affect the quality and accuracy of a response. The study was made on a primate model to differentiate different mechanisms of brain at the receptor level. Alex Thiele, ...

Female brain versus Male brain

The performance of brain in female is better than that of males; however, the size of brain in human females is much smaller than brain of a human male. A recent research done by universities of Los Angeles has brought up these results about human brains. Scientifically, the brain of females is 8 times smaller than that brain of males . Traver Robins, the professor of Neuroscience in Cambridge University supports the results of this research. The smaller size of brain in females is a sign of a better packaging of neurons in their brains, says Robins. The close and better packaging of neurons makes the brain work more efficiently than males. “A human brain has nearly 100 billion and more neurons which make the information flow throughout the brain using chemical and electrical signals.” This new revelation of human female’s brain is a call that females are nevertheless than males and are capable of doing much more than what males can do at mental level. So, all the human ...
